To,
The Director of Education
GNCT of Delhi
Subject: Regarding mismanagement and inhumane treatment in deployment of teaching staff on COVID 19 duty
Honourable Sir,
The GSTA (Government School Teachers Association Delhi) wishes to make your goodself aware of fact that a huge number of teachers has been working with utmost dedication at different centres viz Hunger Relief Centres, Shelter Homes, Ration Distribution Centres and quarantine centres etc.
The teachers have always come forward and cooperated the authorities willingly and paid their hundred percent efforts in discharging the duties, they have been assigned in the fight against the pandemic COVID 19. They are always ready to perform any duty regarding this fight.
Now the association has learnt that several teachers have been deployed to escort and manage the migrant workers to the railway stations and bus terminus from some designated pickup points/ centres in the buses.
The teachers in India have always been given the status of "Guru" since the time immemorial. Priority should be given that they are not deployed at such works which is not according to their dignity. Still if required urgently their dignity should not be violated at all.
Presently, the teachers, deployed at the above mentioned duties are facing many problems. They can be summed up as under-
(1) At almost all the quarantine centres the same teachers have been working for about fifty to fifty five days continuously. Their lives at risk there as they have to discharge duties there without being provided proper protection equipments. Many teachers have tested Corona positive and some of them have died in harness. The authorities DM/SDM etc don't pay any heed to their complaints instead ask them to go to their Director regarding their grievances.
(2) All the teachers deployed at bus duty are called at the pick-up centres at 8 AM in the morning. Some of them are allowedd to board the buses in the first fleet of the buses bound to the railway station in the morning but rest of them forced to remain inside the centre for several hours without being provided any essential facility and without work. Most of them travel in the bus since morning till late at night with 30 to 40 migrant workers there.
(3) Teachers are fully exposed to the infection being amid the rampant crowd of thirty forty peoples in the bus. No physical distance can be maintained there. Moreover the teachers are not provided with proper protection equipments like masks, gloves and caps etc.
(4) The bus drivers leave the teachers at either railway station or at the pick-up centres. Some times they are dropped at these places after midnight. How they will manage to go their homes, nobody cares.
(4) It has also been learnt that the authorities' behaviour with the deployed teachers is also objectionable.
All these things are causing agony and unrest among the teaching community of Delhi working under your kind self. Being under terror and pressure, they are still doing duties committedly.
You are therefore requested to kindly look into the matter personally keeping the teachers plight in view and being head of teaching fraternity of Delhi, take necessary steps to protect them so that we may defeat COVID 19 war unitedly.
Thanks a lot
Sincerely
C P Singh Prashant Priyadarshi
