Govt teachers against NGOs checking answer sheets
NEW DELHI:
The Government School Teachers Association (GSTA) raised a strong objection to the alleged appointment of NGO members to check the answer sheets of Classes 9 and 11 compartmental examination.
The inspection of the compartmental paper was organised after a large number of students failed in these classes in government schools. In one of the schools, students and guardians held the principal hostage and destroyed school property.
The body threatened to start an agitation if the government did not withdraw the appointment of such NGOs.
“This is the beginning of a wrong tradition which will affect the teachers’ respect and raise questions over their ability,” said CP Singh, president of GSTA. They said if there was a need for such inspection, only officials in the education department should be allowed to do so.
However, a senior official in the directorate of education (DoE) said that no appointments were made and there was no such plan.
“As parents were creating a lot of problem and not ready to see the answer sheets, 30-40 teams with officials of the education department and others were sent to the schools for inspection. There were, however, few members in the team from NGOs who are already working with us,” said a senior DoE official. HTC
